Cannot see, cannot hear, and have no arms. Does not have the capabilities that most humans have. Seeing that “defective” state makes people feel gloomy. While there is this negative sense of values, I focus on the aesthetics of “aware” that has existed in Japan since ancient times where it is the imperfect things, rather than the perfect things, that capture the beauty of sentimental emotion.
The world is gradually becoming accepting of diversity. At this time of change, as a Japanese person I want to send out the message for people to further address and embrace diversity.
Diversity to “lack”. Through my work, I want to create an opportunity to think about diversity based on Japanese aesthetics, rather than the values that are seemingly negative.
